Wardrobe Essentials Everyone Should Own

Although most of us have traded our jeans and dresses for sweatpants and slippers for the time being, solid wardrobe essentials are forever. Let’s face it—none of us know how long this quarantine will last, but a closet with a reliable foundation of clothes will make it easier for you to maintain your new work-from home-routine (not to mention, help you get back up to speed once the coronavirus has passed). That’s why the concept of a wardrobe staple is so enduring: A closet built on a streamlined selection of items makes day-to-day dressing infinitely easier. (There’s little guesswork required.)

If you don’t know where to begin when it comes to building up the “essentials” section of your closet, the pieces below should serve as an excellent primer. Plain white tees, LBDs, and ballet flats will always have a place in our wardrobe, but now more than ever, we’re looking to a new kind of timeless classic—and the 10 styles in the gallery ahead are those you can mix and match for years to come. Whether your newest home project is cleaning out your closet and starting from scratch, or you just want something other than pajamas to wear right now, ahead are the wardrobe essentials everyone should own.

The Easy Jeans

We may be living in sweatpants these days, but denim will never go out of style. The new classic is the easy jean—a slouchy, high-waisted straight leg that looks equally chic with a pair of pumps or dad sneakers

Reformation Cynthia High Waist Relaxed Jeans

The Versatile Layer

Everyone owns a T-shirt they love by now—but nothing beats the cool factor of a tank top. In addition to being a solid base layer, today’s tank tops have asymmetrical necklines and ultrathin straps that are meant to be shown off come sunnier days ahead (literally and figuratively). Whether you style it with a pair of high-waist jeans or a pair of baggy sweatpants, or wear it under a slip dress, no closet is complete without.

The Statement Blazer

A great blazer is a true workhorse in any wardrobe. Need an extra something to pull together an office look? Turn to a blazer. A great outerwear substitute when it’s not quite cold enough for a heavy coat? Again, a blazer. The can’t-go-wrong jacket to throw on over your cocktail dress for Zoom happy hour? You know the answer.

These are some of the best solutions for the upcoming autumn season to refresh your style. Is it time to upgrade the wardrobe?

The High Fashion Coloring Book Ready to Brighten Up Your Lockdown

Prada

While the lively back-and-forth between Colbi Mugrabi, founder of multidisciplinary media brand Minnie Muse, and artist and designer Sarah Coleman might make it seem as if they have been lifelong friends, it turns out the backstory to their new collaborative coloring book is a little more serendipitous. “I actually bought one of Colby’s sweatshirts from the Gagosian bookstore a while back and posted it on my Instagram story; then we started messaging,” says Coleman. “I think we recognized we have a shared aesthetic, in that we both like to bring humor into everything that we do.” On this, Mugrabi agrees: “It’s kind of like the ultimate quarantine friendship—we had actually never even met in person until a few weeks ago!”

All the same, their creative synergy was obvious from the get-go. “Back in March, we started talking about the projects we’ve been spending our time on during quarantine, and we came up with the idea of the coloring book just as a way for ourselves and for others to get creative,” says Mugrabi. “We really bonded over our love for Prada, and that was the first page we did. At the beginning, this was more of a fun project for us than anything. We asked ourselves, if we could be quarantined in a Prada room, what would it look like?

”The project quickly expanded into a fully-fledged coloring book titled Color-me, now available for free as a digital download, featuring eight interior vignettes inspired by a carefully curated selection of their favorite brands. Ranging from the offbeat, craft-inflected vision of Jonathan Anderson’s Loewe, here packed to the rafters with a number of the label’s most memorable artist collaborations, to an ode to Fenty that features Rihanna herself riding on the back of the motocross bike, the book vividly re-creates the feeling of stepping into the minds of some of their most admired designers.

Miuccia Prada’s Katie Grand-designed alter ego is all grown up and ready to rumble.

Miu Miu F/W 2019 advertising campaign

While Prada is busy reviving its fortunes with a creative symbiosis of past and future, tapping into its design roots, wrapping the hybrid results in a lively digital hubbub, kid sister Miu Miu has managed to capitalise on the momentum with a multi-faceted ad campaign for Autumn/Winter. It’s easy to imagine its splintery fusion of fashion, music and art proving particularly engaging for Miuccia herself, seeing how often Miu Miu has functioned as her own wayward fashion alter ego.

Having problems? Face them wearing Prada.

fashionandstylerioterI doubt that there is a person that has not heard the name Prada. I really doubt that. To remind those who forgot about it. Prada is a very old Italian luxury brand, recognized as one of the top fashion brands to have ever existed and today, I’m going to tell you about it.

The company was started in 1913 by Mario Prada and his brother Martino as a leather goods shop – Fratelli Prada – in Milan, Italy. Initially, the shop sold animal goods and imported English steamer trunks and handbags.

Mario Prada did not believe that women should have a role in business, and so he prevented female family members from entering his company. Ironically, Mario’s son harbored no interest in the business, so it was his daughter Luisa Prada, who took the helm of Prada as his successor and ran it for almost twenty years. Her own daughter, Miuccia Prada, joined the company in 1970, eventually taking over for her mother in 1978.
